Child Development Screenings

Service Description

Developmental screening is a way to systematically find and monitor signs of a possible delay in a young child. Screening is NOT meant to establish a diagnosis, but to assist in planning the next step for the child, and whether a more in-depth assessment is needed. Early identification and intervention of developmental issues can change the path of a child's life. As many as one in four children under the age of 6 are at risk for a developmental delay or disability. Less than half of these problems are identified before the child reaches school age, meaning that the problems may have worsened and critical intervention opportunities have been missed during the early years. Studies have shown that children who receive early intervention and treatment for developmental disorders are more likely to graduate from high school, to hold jobs as adults, and are less likely to commit criminal acts than those who do not receive early intervention.
